Basalt Roving (Continuous Fiber)

Basalt roving from Global Optimals – continuous fiber with tensile strength ≥ 1800 MPa, modulus 79‑93 GPa and linear density 200‑2400 tex. The fiber is produced by melting high‑purity basalt rock at temperatures above 1500 °C, followed by extrusion and a controlled thermal stabilization step that locks in the crystalline structure. This crystalline nature gives basalt roving exceptional chemical inertness: it resists attack from strong acids such as sulfuric or nitric acid and from alkaline solutions like sodium or potassium hydroxide, making it suitable for aggressive environments found in chemical processing plants, marine structures, and oil‑and‑gas pipelines. When combined with epoxy, polyester or vinyl‑ester resin systems, the roving provides excellent wet‑layup adhesion and efficient load transfer, which is critical for pultrusion profiles, reinforcement bars and high‑pressure tubes. In composite laminates the basalt fibers increase impact toughness and fatigue life, enabling lightweight aerospace panels, automotive structural components, and wind‑turbine blades where high strength‑to‑weight ratio is essential. Adding ceramic fillers or nano‑particles (e.g., Al₂O₃) to basalt‑reinforced matrices extends the usable temperature range from ‑200 °C up to +700 °C without degradation of mechanical properties, supporting fire‑protective claddings and high‑temperature aerospace applications. Handling guidelines recommend dry or slightly humid conditions, avoidance of prolonged UV exposure, and the use of protective gloves and goggles because the fibers can cause skin irritation on extended contact. Storage should be in a dry, ventilated area at ambient temperatures (+5 °C to +25 °C) to prevent moisture condensation and preserve original performance. During transport, rolls are placed in wooden or metal crates with soft inner liners to protect against mechanical damage. The selectable linear density allows engineers to tailor the roving for specific project requirements, from lightweight composite panels to heavily loaded reinforcement systems. Global Optimals also offers precision cutting and winding services, reducing preparation time for production runs. Each batch is accompanied by a complete set of technical documentation – TDS, SDS and COA – ensuring traceability and quality control throughout the supply chain.

Storage and handling

The basalt roving must be stored in a dry, well‑ventilated area at ambient temperatures (approximately +15 °C to +25 °C), protected from direct sunlight and moisture condensation. Keep the material in its original packaging – multi‑layer polyethylene bags or sealed containers – and ensure the integrity of the packaging to prevent mechanical damage. When these conditions are met, the product remains stable for up to 12 months; periodic checks for moisture ingress and any change in mechanical properties are advisable for longer storage. During handling, wear protective gloves and safety glasses and avoid inhaling dust.
