In typical refinery schemes the clay is added as a dry powder after degumming, mixed at 30‑60 °C to promote contact, and then the mixture is passed through a filtration unit where the adsorbed contaminants are retained on the solid phase. For enhanced selectivity, the clay can be used in combination with activated carbon or cation‑exchange resins, especially when targeting specific free fatty acids. Particle size distribution in the range of 20‑100 µm is preferred to maintain low pressure drop across columns. Recommended storage conditions are a dry, cool environment protected from direct sunlight and moisture, with sealed 25 kg bags.
